LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., Oct. 26, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Laguna College of Art + Design (LCAD), alongside BNBuilders and architect LPA, Inc., celebrated the topping out of its new Innovation Center, marking a major step toward creating a shared home for learning, collaboration, and connection at the college’s Big Bend campus in Laguna Canyon.

The two-story, 21,000 sf building will support LCAD’s vision of bringing its creative community together and providing students with the spaces and resources to prepare for careers in art and design. The topping out marks completion of the building’s structural steel framework.

Speakers included LCAD Interim President and CEO Mark Saville, LCAD Board Chair Justin Thavirat, Laguna Beach Mayor Mark Orgill, and project donor Pat Quilter.

The center and surrounding site improvements will include:

  • Digital arts classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, and the Roland Print Lab, supported by Roland DGA Corporation.
  • A 3,000 sf multipurpose exhibition space with additional multipurpose rooms for lectures and that can be combined to host larger events.
  • A café, elevated dining patio, and courtyard for everyday interaction and campus events.
  • A new surface parking lot with 187 stalls including 14 EV charging stalls.

The project replaces an approximately 2,600 sf portable building and an existing asphalt parking lot. Designed with sustainability and fire resistance in mind, the new facility will complement its canyon setting while supporting the college’s long-term needs.

Construction on an active campus in Laguna Canyon has made thoughtful planning and clear communication essential. BNBuilders has worked closely with LCAD, LPA, City officials, and the surrounding community to keep people informed, coordinate construction activities, and minimize disruption to campus life and neighboring properties.

“LCAD is creating a place where students can share ideas, learn from one another, and connect with the people shaping their industries,” said Scott Augustine, Project Executive at BNBuilders. “Our responsibility is to help bring that vision to life while respecting the students, faculty, and neighbors who are part of this community every day.”

When complete, the Innovation Center will give LCAD’s creative community new ways to learn, exhibit work, and build relationships across programs and beyond the classroom.
