Unite Us, the nation’s trusted technology partner for integrating health and community-based care, today announced that Greg Fitzgerald has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the company. Fitzgerald previously served as CTO of Vircho Health, a company that Unite Us acquired in early August to add performance and financial tools for community care hubs to measure, optimize, and validate program performance.
Fitzgerald brings over 20 years of experience as a software engineer and 16 years in technical executive leadership and strategy, with a career built at the intersection of healthcare, technology, data, and AI. At Vircho Health since 2022, he set the technology and product strategies for the company and led the software development, data engineering, data science, and AI engineering responsible for delivering Vircho Health’s software-as-a-service social care platform, including tools for performance reporting, clinical-system connections, and field verification products currently in use for community care hubs in North Carolina.
Earlier in his career, Fitzgerald helped lead two startups to successful exits and served as Lead Technologist of Centene’s Envolve Innovation Lab. He has also run engineering teams for Centene Corporation, one of the country’s largest government-sponsored health insurers, LiveHealthier, a digital corporate wellness company acquired by Centene, and HealthCentral, a social community of patients and experts acquired by Remedy Health Media.
“Greg has spent his career turning healthcare data into something organizations can act on, which makes him the right leader for this moment,” said Taylor Justice, CEO and co-founder of Unite Us. “For nearly 14 years, Unite Us has built closed-loop, longitudinal outcomes data, tracking not just referrals but whether people actually got the care and services they needed over time, across a nationwide network of thousands of organizations. Greg will continue our work to turn that record into insights, evolving our platform from one that tracks care to one that intelligently shows networks what action to take next and when.”
As CTO, Fitzgerald will lead Unite Us’ Engineering & Technology organization, setting technical strategy and direction across the platform, while working closely with the product team to design, develop, and deploy Unite Us’ suite of product offerings. His team will align Unite Us’ closed-loop referral system, built on nearly 14 years and 125 million connections to care, with Vircho’s analytics, operational, and verification capabilities, to deliver a single platform that can track a service from referral through outcome, optimize its delivery, and prove its impact along the way.
“Community care continues to play an ever-expanding and critical role in the delivery of whole-person healthcare,” said Fitzgerald. “Delivering improved health outcomes, reduced costs, and long-term quality of life improvements requires operating a trusted network of community-based organizations, understanding the needs of local population and individuals, and designing and executing the programs that effectuate change.
“By bringing together Unite Us and Vircho Health’s combination of market-leading technologies, the industry will finally have the full set of capabilities required to move from simply delivering referrals to optimizing for outcomes, and I’m incredibly excited and honored to be able drive the technology vision and execution that will allow Unite Us to continue to lead in this space,” added Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, with a minor in Philosophy, from Bucknell University. He resides in Alexandria, VA, with his family.
