Capvidia will demonstrate how manufacturers can preserve and reuse engineering intent across design, manufacturing, quality and the supply chain at IMTS 2026, Sept. 14–19, at Booth 134510.
Capvidia’s IMTS focus centers on three connected goals:
1. Build a true digital thread and make engineering data AI-ready
QIF is more than a digital-metrology format. Capvidia converts native CAD into open, standards-based QIF while preserving geometry, semantic product and manufacturing information (PMI), characteristics and engineering intent.
Because QIF uses structured, XML-based data, it creates a CAD-independent digital thread that software can automate and AI systems can analyze with context and traceability intact.
2. Automate processes in quality, welding and machining
Automation begins when downstream systems can understand the engineering meaning behind geometry.
Capvidia uses semantic, machine-readable MBD to reduce manual work in quality processes such as Bill of Characteristics generation, ballooning, inspection planning and FAI documentation. Structured weld data can also support simulation and offline robot programming.
At IMTS, Capvidia will also discuss machining as the next frontier for MBD-driven automation. The objective: use engineering information once and reuse it throughout manufacturing.
3. Connect MBD Ready OEMs and suppliers
MBD delivers its full value when deployed holistically across the OEM, downstream operations and supplier network.
QIF provides a shared, standards-based communication framework. OEMs publish validated, machine-readable engineering requirements. Suppliers consume and reuse them without manually interpreting drawings or re-entering characteristics. Structured measurement results return to the OEM, creating a closed loop for process analysis and design improvement.
The result is a win-win: OEMs gain control, traceability and supplier visibility; suppliers gain automation, faster workflows, fewer errors and less rework.
