OTTAWA, ON, CANADA, August 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
1VALET Corp. (“1VALET”), a leading smart-building operating system built by real estate operators for real estate operators, today announced the appointment of Isaiah DeRose-Wilson as Chief Hardware Officer, strengthening the company’s investment in proprietary smart-building hardware as it expands its platform beyond building entry.
DeRose-Wilson co-founded SmartRent Inc. and served as its Chief Technology Officer through its growth into a public company. He joins Chief Executive Officer Demetrios Barnes, with whom he previously helped build SmartRent from its founding, reuniting two longtime collaborators to lead 1VALET’s next phase of hardware innovation.
1VALET already builds and owns its entry hardware, and has in-suite hardware development underway. The company’s video intercom combines facial recognition, mobile credentials, and visitor management in a single in-house-built device, backed by a robust portfolio of in-house intellectual property. Most competitors still deliver those capabilities as separate, third-party systems. DeRose-Wilson’s mandate is to accelerate that work and take the same standard deeper into the building, extending 1VALET’s in-house hardware platform to in-suite devices and additional resident touchpoints.
Every building has different infrastructure, wiring, and operational realities, from older walk-ups and mid-rise conversions to new-construction towers. Each requires a different approach to hardware installation, access control, and connectivity. What multifamily operators can’t afford is for residents to experience those differences. 1VALET’s position is that hardware should flex to the building while the experience stays identical — the same resident app, the same operator dashboard, the same system of record, regardless of what is mounted on the wall.
“Buildings aren’t built the same, so the hardware can’t be either. What can be the same is the experience,” said Demetrios Barnes, Chief Executive Officer of 1VALET. “We proved that at the front door. Our engineering. Our design. Not a licensed shell with a logo on it. Isaiah’s job is to take that standard everywhere else a resident touches the building.”
The appointment follows Barnes’ arrival as Chief Executive Officer earlier this year.
“I’ve spent a decade building smart building hardware, and where you start determines what you can build,” said Isaiah DeRose-Wilson, Chief Hardware Officer of 1VALET. “Most platforms in this space start with the device and work outward. 1VALET started with the operator and the resident, then built the hardware to serve that experience. Because 1VALET’s founder also builds and operates real estate, we can put what we build into occupied properties, learn from how people actually use it, and make it better before we bring it to customers at scale.”
“We’ve always believed hardware and software should be designed together as one product,” said Hanna Haddad, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of 1VALET. “Isaiah and I will work closely together to bring that thinking across the entire building. He’ll lead hardware, I’ll lead software, and together we’ll design both from day one.”
DeRose-Wilson assumes responsibility for hardware engineering, product architecture, and manufacturing strategy, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The appointment supports 1VALET’s continued investment in a vertically integrated smart building platform and strengthens its leadership in multifamily technology.
